[NetWorking.Kids] - designing with children
[Networking.Kids] is a ongoing research project at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Aarhus.
The project is a part of the research program from the Centre for Interactive Spaces.
What
The project aims to inform the process of designing with children. We wish to investigate how technology is appropriated, and how technology influences children's everyday practice. In the NetWorking.Kids project, children have been actively involved in designing location-based support for educational use, based on a Nokia 7650 terminal and GPS technology. In particular, we have focused on technology that allows the children and teachers to move the education outside the classroom and into the real world. Technology should provide children with better means of collecting, producing and presenting project work by combining and integrating traditional IT equipment (primarily PC's) and pervasive technology in school settings.
Who
Networking.Kids is a participatory design project, involving children from Katrinebjergskolen, Skovvangskolen and Kjellerup skole as our design-partners.
The project is coordinated by Ph.D student Ole Iversen
and Assistant Professor Christina Nielsen.
